Rochester, NY (May 20, 2015) – Yesterday afternoon at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside in a joint press conference, Armand D’Alfonso, President and CEO of Nothnagle Realtors, announced that his firm has joined forces with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, the 4th largest real estate company in the United States.* With this alliance, the two family-owned companies now have 125 years of combined experience and operating history to guide and to grow them to new heights.
“I’ve known the Hanna family for years through our mutual affiliation with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®. Their innovative technology, commitment to top-quality service and family ownership closely mirror the culture of our company,” said D’Alfonso.
Nothnagle Realtors is the #1 broker in the region, and the 3rd largest in New York state, with 32 office locations covering Western New York, the Southern Tier region and the Finger Lakes region. The company has over 900 agents and employees and is ranked the 40th largest real estate company in the country* with closed sales volume of $1.4 billion and 9,568 closed transactions last year.
There will not be a change to the company name or to local leadership. “The only change will be that Nothnagle agents will be able to offer additional services to their clients, take advantage of new products to offer, and leverage resources for relocation business, technology support and marketing/advertising,” added D’Alfonso.
Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services is a family-owned company providing residential and commercial brokerage, mortgage, closing, title, insurance and appraisal services, corporate relocation, property management and land development services with more than 6,400 agents and employees in 173 offices across eight states. Howard Hanna has four offices in Chautauqua County located in Fredonia, Mayville, Chautauqua Institution and Lakewood/Jamestown.
“Armand D’Alfonso is an old friend who has truly built a remarkable real estate organization. The entire Hanna family and company are delighted to be part of Nothnagle Realtors. We believe the business philosophies and corporate cultures are very similar and provide the best products and services in the real estate industry to our homebuyers/sellers and agents/employees alike. Under Armand’s leadership, we look to build a larger network of the ‘best of the best’ agents and offices throughout the entire state of New York,” said Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna, III, Chairman and CEO, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.
The combined performance of the joint Nothnagle and Howard Hanna companies in 2014 was $11.3 billion in closed sales volume and 61,776 closed transactions. The combined strength of companies is more than 7,300
agents and employees with 205 offices in the eight states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Michigan, West Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.
Both Nothnagle Realtors and Howard Hanna Real Estate Services come from small beginnings and have grown into the leading real estate brokers in their market areas. Built on a history of innovation, Nothnagle was established in 1948 by John T. Nothnagle using the $400 he had saved from his job at Eastman Kodak and utilizing the revolutionary technology of using photographs to sell houses. He displayed photos of homes for sale in his “Gallery of Homes,” saving consumers and agents time by allowing potential homebuyers to narrow their search options by viewing the photos.
Built on a tradition of excellence, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services was founded in 1957 by Howard W. Hanna, Jr. and his wife, Anne Freyvogel Hanna, when they spent $25 to open a one-room office in Pittsburgh. With an additional $20 for a phone and $15 for a Realtor’s license, they began what is now the #1 real estate company in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Coincidentally, both companies use the same colors of green and gold for their logos and marketing materials. Additional points of similarity include both that debuted “Showcase of Homes” television shows in the mid-1980s: Nothnagle, first in the country to do so in 1985, followed closely by Howard Hanna in 1986; both debuted their properties for sale on the internet in 1995; both have been in business for 50+ years; and both have some of the largest market share percentages in the country: Nothnagle in Western New York, Howard Hanna in Northeast Ohio and in Western Pennsylvania.
